Plastic Present

Photo Collage

Change is inevitable, both in small aspects of life and on a larger scale. For example, wood has historically been a mainstay building material, and it is still widely used. However, there is a rise in the use of artificial materials, like the vinyl tiles pictured here. Society increasingly uses plastic over wood for other natural materials. This is reflected in the more frequent use of credit cards instead of paper money or taking notes on a computer instead of a physical notebook. In many ways, paper products are becoming a thing of the past. In addition, more people are living in cities, further removing culture and daily life from its agrarian roots, connection with nature, and the use of organic matter for common objects. Microplastics are also in greater concentrations in the human body as a result of drinking from plastic vessels and eating prepared food, along with environmental pollution. Based on the evidence, the question remains: are we becoming plastic?
